Paytm is hiring Backend Software Engineers to build and scale high-performance backend systems that power India's largest digital payments and financial services platform. Job Overview
Eligibility Criteria
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline.
- Minimum 1 year of backend software development experience using Java.
- Strong understanding of Data Structures, Algorithms, Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), Multithreading, and Software Engineering fundamentals.
- Hands-on experience with Kafka, Redis, RDBMS, Microservices, and Distributed System architectures.
- Good knowledge of AWS Cloud, cloud-native application development, caching, messaging systems, and scalable backend services.
- Experience working with databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Cassandra, and performance optimization techniques.
- Passion for building high-throughput, low-latency, fault-tolerant backend systems capable of handling millions of daily transactions.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, deploy, and maintain highly scalable backend services capable of processing millions of financial transactions every day.
- Build and optimize distributed microservices, APIs, messaging systems, caching layers, and data architectures for maximum performance, reliability, and availability.
- Develop clean, efficient, maintainable, and production-ready code using Java while following software engineering best practices and coding standards.
- Work with technologies including Kafka, Redis, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Cassandra, RabbitMQ, AWS, and Microservices to build resilient backend systems.
- Identify performance bottlenecks, optimize latency, improve throughput, troubleshoot production issues, and ensure high system uptime.
- Collaborate with product managers, architects, DevOps engineers, QA teams, and fellow software engineers to deliver high-quality fintech solutions.
- Leverage AI-powered development tools such as GPT, GitHub Copilot, OpenHands, and similar technologies to accelerate development, debugging, testing, and engineering productivity.
- Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, performance optimization initiatives, and continuously explore innovative technologies to improve Paytm's backend platform.
Skills Required
- Programming Languages – Strong proficiency in Java. Knowledge of Node.js is an added advantage.
- Data Structures & Algorithms – Excellent understanding of arrays, linked lists, trees, graphs, hash tables, recursion, searching, sorting, dynamic programming, and algorithm optimization.
- Backend Development – Hands-on experience building REST APIs, Microservices, Distributed Systems, High-Throughput Backend Services, and Scalable Applications.
- Databases & Storage – Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL, MySQL, Cassandra, RDBMS concepts, database optimization, and data modeling.
- Messaging & Caching – Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis, Aerospike, asynchronous messaging, and caching strategies.

- Monitoring & Performance – Experience with Elasticsearch, Kibana, Grafana, system monitoring, performance tuning, low-latency optimization, and high-availability systems.
- AI-Assisted Development – Exposure to AI coding tools such as GPT, GitHub Copilot, OpenHands, or similar tools for code generation, debugging, testing, and workflow automation.
