BlackRock is hiring a Software Engineer (Python, SQL), Portfolio Management Group, Analyst for its technology team. The role is focused mainly on backend development, where you will work on software applications, APIs, data workflows and analytical tools.
You will use Python and SQL to develop backend services, data-processing workflows and automation solutions. The role also includes working with structured and unstructured data, supporting analytics and AI-enabled solutions, and contributing to applications with some front-end development using technologies such as React.
Along with development work, you will work with business stakeholders to understand requirements and turn them into technical solutions. You will also be involved in testing, defect tracking, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, API and integration testing, and improving application quality and reliability.

Eligibility Criteria
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
- Experience: 1–3 years of relevant work experience.
- Programming: Strong programming fundamentals and hands-on experience with Python and SQL.
- Software Development: Understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and software testing lifecycle (STLC).
- Testing: Knowledge of manual testing, defect tracking and test case design.
- Test Automation: Familiarity with test automation concepts and tools such as Selenium or similar frameworks.
- APIs & Integration: Understanding of REST APIs, databases, data pipelines and application integration.
- Version Control: Experience with version control systems and collaborative development workflows.
- Front-end Knowledge: Basic knowledge of React, JavaScript, TypeScript or another front-end technology is beneficial.
- Data & AI: Familiarity with data analysis, AI, machine learning or generative AI concepts is beneficial.
- Problem Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including root-cause analysis.
- Communication: Ability to gather requirements and clearly communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain software components based on functional and technical requirements.
- Develop backend services, APIs, data-processing workflows and automation solutions using Python.
- Contribute to full-stack applications, with the main focus on backend development and limited front-end development.
- Work with structured and unstructured data to support analytics, reporting and AI-enabled solutions.
- Work with business stakeholders to gather requirements and document use cases.
- Translate business requirements into practical technical solutions.
- Investigate technical and data-related issues and perform root-cause analysis.
- Recommend scalable solutions and improvements to application quality and reliability.
- Support automation efforts by contributing to test scripts and reusable validation frameworks where applicable.
- Monitor application behaviour and analyse the root causes of technical issues.
- Use Git and defect tracking platforms to support collaborative development, delivery and testing processes.
