Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, troubleshoot, and debug software programs for new products, enhancements, and technology platforms.
- Write clean, functional, secure, and well-tested code while following Cisco's software development and secure coding practices.
- Work on small-to-medium software features from technical design through completion with guidance from experienced team members.
- Apply software development lifecycle practices including requirements analysis, design, coding, unit testing, and acceptance testing.
- Participate in technical design, coding, debugging, testing, troubleshooting, and code reviews throughout the development process.
- Execute tests focused on scale, reliability, and performance while ensuring software is comprehensive and handles relevant use cases.
- Monitor and triage incident reports, participate in postmortems, and potentially contribute to on-call activities when required.
- Collaborate with team members and cross-functional teams, communicate project status and blockers, share technical learnings, and contribute to problem solving.
- Develop software and tools supporting areas such as operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, utilities, databases, and Internet-related technologies.
- Continuously learn new technologies, share knowledge with the team, and contribute to improving software quality, security, reliability, and performance.
Skills Required
- Programming & Scripting – Strong programming knowledge with Python and familiarity with software development practices. Programming skills focused on optimization and performance are valuable.
- Computer Science Fundamentals – Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals, software engineering, object-oriented programming, operating systems, and software development lifecycle.
- Networking – Understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, routers, switches, and network debugging. Knowledge of networking protocols and concepts is particularly relevant for the Networking Protocols track.
- Security – Basic understanding of technologies such as Firewall, IPS/IDS, VPN, Inspection, IPsec, and TLS is an added advantage for networking-focused roles.
- Application Development – Knowledge of object-oriented design and programming, application development, cloud scalability, debugging, and software testing.
- Systems & Embedded Development – Understanding of operating systems, system programming, kernel programming, user space, system space, system-level debugging, with exposure to device drivers or BSPs being an advantage.
- Testing & Debugging – Strong inclination toward comprehensive testing, troubleshooting, debugging, reliability, and ensuring software works correctly across different use cases.
- Professional Skills – Excellent problem-solving, communication, collaboration, self-learning, adaptability, and teamwork skills with the ability to work effectively with extended engineering teams.
